I know where you're coming from, I went about figuring out mapping, because I didn't like the limitations, and while making presets w/ the Novation desktop editor is definitely useful - it's really impractical when you get beyond a couple of your most crucial mappings - certainly not for a more programmatic way to more fully control a device beyond 8 parameters - where you just end up toggling back and forth between the device and your mouse. If you're having problems with the Launch Control not controlling Live, please try updating the firmware of the device through Components: Launch Control XL Components guide. Maybe the Launch Control XL is for you 8 faders each with two buttons and three. I also wrote an article that intros this kind of stuff too The LaunchControl XL Guide. I tend to just play tracks or parts of tracks together in a manner not. Those scripts can automatically map up to the max allowed w/ Live currently (128) - along w/ other features for mapping more complex plugins like VST's where the parameters and even GUI can vary from preset to preset. So I have a problem with my live set up, occasionally my launch control XL (mapped to different parameters on the user setting) resets for some unknown reason. The large number of internal Ableton Live controls already works well with the Device control row from default template. I am using Launch Control XL (alongside Push) as a mixer, and the default template is pretty useless for mixing full tracks since EQ control through the device function on the third row of knobs is not efficient for multiple tracks. Launch Control XL Controller for Ableton Live. NOVATION LAUNCH CONTROL XL Performance Issues There is no information online about this for some reason. Unfortunately, FL does not have parameter soft takeover and does not support endless encoders, which renders most MIDI controllers useless. One you've done that, it will work as expected. You may need to install the Novation USB driver first. That being said, if you want to have some automatic mapping beyond those 8 parameters, and for 3rd party and other type devices, you'll want to look into the LCXXL & PrEditor scripts on the Isotonik Studios website. Other midi controllers also come with a lot of buttons, knobs and faders. Run the Launch Control XL Editor utility and reset User Preset 1 to factory default. If you've got the LCXL setup w/ Live in factory mode 1, the 3rd row of pots should always automatically map to the 8 parameters (which are assigned by Live and might not be the first 8 you see on a device etc).
